Lovely Little Vignettes

My favorite part of visiting a person's home is seeing what collectibles, trinkets, and other items grace their shelves and tables.  Often, these small decorative items tell a story about the family- who they are, where they've been, and what they value.  Growing up, my parents always took home a special something from our trips and found the perfect place for it in our home.  I suppose that's why I love to see a lived in home- one with items layered one upon the other, with nothing too perfect or too in place.  That's the focus of my post today- those pretty little vignettes that give us insight into the overall aesthetic of the home.

In poetry, a vignette is a short impressionistic scene that focuses on one moment or gives a powerful impression about a character, an idea, or a setting and sometimes an object.  The design idea of a vignette is an object, space, or grouping of objects that gives a poignant impression of the overall aesthetic of the home.

  5. love this! we don't have a ton of counter/table top/mantle space, so the vignettes are small. i collect skeleton keys, so you'll find them around the apt, usually next to a candle or picture frame.
