Built-Ins in the Bedroom

So I know we've all seen built-in shelving in living rooms and home libraries- that's kind of old news.  But what about built-ins in the master bedroom?  Good design should be functional and aesthetically pleasing, and built-in shelving in a bedroom provides ample extra storage and architectural appeal.  I love this wall of built-ins lined with sconces and flush cabinetry:

If I were to re-design my own bedroom with built-in shelving, I would include open shelving at the top to display tchotchkes and my favorite coffee table books, and a hidden cabinet at the bottom for storage:

If your master closet size is limited, and you don't have a full wall to construct built-ins, designing a corner cabinet to hold extra clothes, shoes, and handbags is a smart use of space:

Cabinetry and shelving isn't the only thing you can choose to build in.  In this room, the bedside tables are built-in to the wall and provide a unique bedside table:

The only downside here is you are limited in your furniture layout.  You could never really move your bed to a different spot in the room unless you didn't mind a random side table sticking out!

So what's your take?  Would built-in shelving be in your dream bedroom, or no?

  3. These are beautiful images. I think if you need the storage yes....and these are the perfect (beautiful and practical) options. Like my days in NY I needed something like this....now that I'm in Texas and everything is supersized and I'm not crammed in I would prefer for the built-ins to be in other rooms.

  4. All for built ins for the bedroom. I recall a friend who's parents had built ins in their master. I put them on my wish list even then back in high school.

  5. Yes, I actually need one flanking my fireplace! I keep showing my 'bed-side' of the room but never the one across, I need to fix that spot badly. thanks for the inspiration

  6. I'm all for them. I had built-in shelves and built-in drawers in my bedroom growing up, and I still miss them.

  11. Well built-in shelves or storage are not a "dreamy" option for me but I did in my bedroom because of the lack of space and of course I desperatly needed storage for my clothes!
So I would say that it's a great potion for smalll spaces and additional storage even if built-in storage can sometimes can be very beautiful as in the pictures above but I like to change the position of my furniture sometimes and now I cannot do it anymore in my bedroom :(

  16. I love the look of built-ins in any room, but I never thought about adding them to the bedroom. These images are gorgeous - and now bedroom built-ins are definitely on my home bucketlist.
