Scribner's Catskill Lodge Getaway

I had a week last week that made me wonder, "how is Mercury not in retrograde?"  The week culminated on Friday when I managed to slice open two fingers trying to open an Amazon package, and found myself in the emergency room getting six stitches.  Le sigh- there's never a dull moment!  Thankfully, I was able to escape to Scribner's Lodge in the Catskills this past weekend to decompress and relax with my girl GabbyMadewell x Parachute hosted the weekend, properly pitched as "The Coziest Weekend Ever", and it was lovely.  We meditated, we did yoga, we knitted, we drank lots of negronis by the fire, we roasted marshmellows.  It felt a little like being back at girl's summer camp, but in a much more plush atmosphere.  If you get the chance, I highly recommend checking out Scribner's.  As I noted on my instagram post, the vibe is very 70s Abercrombie chic.  While the lodge itself has existed since 1966, things got a hell-of-a-lot more chic in the fall of 2016, when Scribner's got a facelift by the fab Studio Tack:

Here's what was on my packing list:

From top to bottom, left to right:
Donegal Kent Beanie $19.99/Indio Sunglasses $55/Madewell x Vans Unisex Sneakers $70/Maroon Blanket Scarf $19/Fleece Jogger Pants $44/ThermoBall North Face Puffer $199/Merino Travel Kit $169/Georgina Snow Boots, $160/

Hope everyone has a good week- I'm counting down the days til I can get these damn stitches out! :)

XO,

Sam

Friday's Worthy Links 02.15.18

What a week.  We all survived Valentine's Day, I'm hoping?   Does anyone else feel that Valentine's Day, while well-intentioned, quickly turns in to a pis*ing contest on social media to prove your significant other gives the best presents?  Honestly every time I opened instagram I had to roll my eyes and quickly close the app.  And this comes from a girl who's boyfriend did actually give her a pretty spectacular Valentine's Day. :)  But then, to close out the week, we learn of another school shooting in Florida- where a single student killed at least 17 people.  It's hard to know what the right thing is to say after this kind of tragedy, but I am certain the answer isn't just "thoughts and prayers" for the families.  It's this kind of empathy, but coupled with action.  Donate to every town or better yet the Stoneman Douglas Victims' Fund, and then contact your members of congress and urge them to act on sensible gun control legislation.  I think Cleo Wade said it best: "It should be hard as hell to get a gun.  Period."

To balance out my angst, I thought it appropriate to post a lovely photo of Jane Scott Hodge's living room, originally featured here.  And now, on to weekend links...

Friday's Worthy Links:

The United States of guns- a required read for all Americans.  This is very informative, too.

A billionaire's daily breakfast allowance.  Now I'm dying to watch his documentary.

So proud of my friend Kimberly on the purchase of her NY apartment!  She shares the deets on how she saved up for her downpayment (in one of the most expensive cities in the world) here.

I hate to admit it, but I'm pretty smitten over Nicky Hilton's NoHo apartment tour

Rebecca de Ravenel, drop-earring designer extraordinaire, unveiled a fall 2018 ready-to-wear clothing collection- and I wish I could purchase this, this and this.

At a more practical price point, I'm lusting after thisthisthis, and this. Nordstrom currently has a 40% off winter sale happening, & Ann Taylor Loft is offering 50% off their sale items

Here's to a restful and relaxing weekend, filled with love.

XOXO,

Sam

Friday's Worthy Links- 1.12.18

Friday's Worthy Links:

-Someone who's finally saying something positive about millennials.

-Thoughts on New Years Resolutions from a New Yorker writer.

-How one person saved 30 percent of their income in 2017. I think #5 could work for me.  #moneygoals

-If you need a good laugh and/or a mental break, watching this never gets old.

-Oprah for Prez 2020- everything you need to know.

-Ahhhh.... a few lovely, nameless feelings.

-My new style icon: Prince George.  I cannot get over how insanely adorable this kid is.

-Loved reading my friend Sophie's experience getting naked with 10 other gals in a Finnish sauna.

-Rag & Bone (aka my favorite brand of all time) is having a 40% off sale with code EXTRA40.  Love this, this, and this.

-Urban Outfitters is also having 40% off this weekend for items from their home/apartment collection.  Someone please buy this chic sofa (for under $700!) or this sleeper (or this cute one) for under $600.  More finds: the cutest to-go containers ever, a fun twist on the typical self-help book, this, these, this, and this.  Happy Shopping!

Have a good weekend!

Weekend Links 11.18.17

Happy Saturday!  I am so looking forward to going back to Oklahoma for Thanksgiving next week.  Can you believe it's already holiday season?  I've had to pinch myself a few times because I keep asking Alexa to "play Christmas music!" which is 100% out of character for me.  I'm typically a Scrooge.  No tree, no decorations... and definitely no Christmas tunes.  But as I sit in my apartment and write this, I have a CB2 white wreath on my front door and Bing Crosby singing out of my speakers.

Weekend Links for Your Perusal:

-I've become fascinated with Belgian psychotherapist Esther Perel, and am dying to read her two books, Mating in Captivity & The State of Affairs. I found her podcast conversation with Tim Ferriss so enlightening, and she did a follow-up Q&A session with viewers last week that really touched me.  Let me just say this:  I don't necessarily agree with everything she discusses, but I have learned a great deal from the insights she shares and the topics she explores from her 34 years of work as a psychotherapist in NYC.

-So impressed with all the participants of the latest One Room Challenge, but especially digging Naomi Stein's guest room transformation (those wallpapered doors!)

-Still loving this cheery Manhattan apartment designed by Miles Redd a few years ago (sitting room pictured above). Chartreuse + vivid pink silk + chinoiserie wallpaper + Damien Hurst artwork = design heaven.

-All the feels for this post from Mari Andrew.  Isn't her instagram the best?

-Jealous of Jackie Clair's latest thrift store find, a Frances Elkins-style loop chair. Housing Works here in NY is a gold mine for finding gently-used antiques and furniture treasures.

-Looking for inexpensive art?  I dig these printable posters.

-Just purchased this table for my apartment to work as a kitchen table of sorts and I have to say I am loving it.  I generally try to avoid buying from catalog stores because I love antiques and one-of-a-kind pieces, but I needed something badly and this fit the bill.  I also purchased two of these chairs which are currently at the upholsterer getting a facelift (but are so comfortable).

Have a nice, relaxing weekend!

XOXO,

Sam

Friday's Worthy Links 11.10.17

Happy Friday!  Any fun weekend plans in the works?  I'm planning to jaunt up to Storm King with some friends tomorrow morning and I'd also like to watch the new Joan Didion documentary on Netflix at some point.  The film is directed by her nephew Griffin Dunne, and explores both her personal struggles and remarkable writing career. It's bound to be fascinating.  Read on for Friday's links...

Friday's Worthy Links:

-Rare antique pieces, furniture and art from iconic designer Jacques Grange's personal collection will be up for auction at Sotheby's on November 21st in Paris (collectors rejoice!).  Among the items are a spin painting by Damien Hurst, furniture and accessories by the Art Deco designer Jean-Michael Frank, works by Giacometti, David Hockney, Henri Matisse, Corbusier... the list goes on and on.  View the 130 pieces here.  A snippet of Grange's decadent Paris apartment is pictured above.

-Love the subtle beauty of designer Veere Grenney's Norfolk estate.  I especially love that chintz headboard fabric.

-Today is day 12 of a clean-eating plan I'm trying to follow this month, so naturally all I want to stare at is cheese.

-12 restaurants that prove the Upper East Side (my 'hood!) is cool again.

-Wanting all.of.the.bags.

-So thrilled for Leandra and her big news!

-Current mood.

-The only thing you need to be good at.

And a few gift ideas to get your creative juices flowing for the holiday season...

Enjoy your weekend!

XOXO,

Sam

Saturday's Links- 9.30.17

Happy Weekend!  The weather has turned a bit cooler in New York and the leaves have started falling, and all of it is making me so excited for fall.  As much as I love the summer, there really is nothing like autumn in New York...

{Fall florals planted on Park Avenue}

Weekend Links:

-I highly recommend watching Lady Gaga's Five Foot Two Netflix documentary this weekend.  The movie focuses on the artist in the year leading up to her Superbowl halftime performance and the release of her newest album, Joanne.  I've always been a fan of Gaga, but this film captures her baring her artistic soul in a unique way- mostly grappling with the byproducts of her success and dealing with heartache and physical ailments.  I found it very raw yet very inspiring.

-Another solid Netflix new release is Jerry Before Seinfeld.  As the title suggests, Jerry Seinfeld discusses the years before he became a famous comedian, when he'd regularly do stand up at the Comic Strip Live (right in my 'hood!) and slept in a mostly empty studio apartment.  The coolest scene shows Jerry sitting in the street surrounded by thousands of yellow legal pads, which document every joke he's ever written since 1975.

-RIP Hugh Hefner.  "In my wildest dreams, I never could've imagined a sweeter life," he is quoted as saying once upon a time. Yet this opinion piece suggests that his legacy might have a darker side.

- You know you're in the doghouse when Donald Trump chastizes you for spending too much money.  I was satisfied to see Human Health Secretary Tom Price officially resigned yesterday.

-A cute leopard bootie I recently purchased for under $35,

-I can't imagine a scarier haunted house.

-Speaking of scary things, I was disappointed to hear Darren Aronofsky's Mother! was a bust.  I haven't seen it yet, but not a single person I know recommends it.  I'm a big fan of his past works (including Requiem for a Dream and Black Swan), so I enjoyed listening to his interview on the Tim Ferriss Podcast.  The two discuss everything from dealing with critisicm to navigating difficult conversations to the creative writing process... although I was disappointed they didn't discuss his new relationship with Jennifer Lawrence.

Have a great weekend!

XOXO,

Sam

Happy Labor Day Weekend!

This week I watched in horror as many of my friends and aquaintances in Houston shared photos, videos, and stories of the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.  It is such a helpless feeling to be thousands of miles away and to feel like you don't know how to help tangibly.  My heart goes out to the city I used to call home and to any of you who have been affected by this hurricane.  One way to help, regardless of your location, is to consider making a donation to the Houston Flood Relief Fund.   This fund was started by Houston Texans defensive end JJ Watt. I was happy to hear Drake made a donation of $200,000 yesterday, Ellen Degeneres made a donation of 1,000,000,  and many other celebrities and public figures have donated as well.  Every bit helps as the city begins to rebuild.  All my love to my Houstonites.

As much as I love New York, there are so many things I miss about H town.  The Tex Mex, the warm weather, the people.  I'm thinking about all of you....  and sending love.

Noteworthy Labor Day sales...

My favorite fall jacket is 40% off this weekend.  I got this guy in burgandy fudge and I've been wearing it in my office every day ... both when it's cooler on my walk home at night and when the AC gets chilly.

Another recent purchase I'm OBSESSED with are my Frye Gwen perforated slides (instagrammed here)- these babies are so comfortable and chic, and 25% off this weekend on top of already being on sale (enter code 25OFF at checkout).... when I visited Lindsay last weekend she tried them on and couldn't get over how comfy they were.

Etsy is having it's FIRST EVER Labor Day sale!  I love this monogrammed keychain and these tassel earrings for under $10. And let's be real, as the Office's #1 fan I have to get this.

65% off Rag & Bone- love these, this, and these.

30% off Urban Outfitters-  including apartment finds, like this transitional rug and this woven one, and this cute carved coffee table.

Have a good weekend!

XOXO,

Sam

Friday's Worthy Links - 7.21.17

Tomorrow morning I fly to Florida to spend a week on the beach with my family.  I can't wait to hang out with my niece and nephew and just relaxxxx.  Is there anything as relieving as putting up your "out of office" message on email?  I think not.  On that note, if anyone has recommendations for cool things to do or great places to eat in Destin please do let me know (why am I already hearing crickets?).  Read on for this week's links!

Friday's Worthy Links:

A teenager's summer bucket list was found last week in an Urban Outfitters dressing room, and her list is simultaneously horrifying and impressive.  The New York Times rebutted with this fabulous 35-year-old woman's bucket list.

Today the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale opens to everyone so let the mayhem begin.  I was personally crushed to find that many of the items I had in my cart where already sold out.   Thankfully, these, these and these are still available as I had my eye on all 3 since first scouring the sale. Also grabbing this which will be perfect for OU football games, Also: this, this, and this.

I've always had a bit of a crush on this guy.  He's making me want to travel to India, stat.

Vacation or trip?  A Helpful Guide for Parents.  Even though I'm not a parent I found this very funny.

I plan to try this soon.  I've become acutely aware of how much time I spend mindlessly scrolling through my phone and it isn't adding to my life or making me happier; in fact, it's starting to make me angry.  I want to be more in the moment and content without needing to revert to opening my phone when I have a few idle minutes to spare.  My first step was disabling push notifications on Instagram and deleting the Facebook app.  So far, so good.  In fact, it's a bit relieving!  I think learning to curate how much time I actively spend on apps is the goal.  Does anyone else struggle with this?

Thank you My Domaine for including moi in your small space living article.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

XOXO,

Sam

Friday's Worthy Links- 4.7.17

A few noteworthy articles and fun links to get you through the weekend...

Friday's Worthy Links:

-Digging the details of this Manhattan Pre-War apartment.  I'd love to live in that kid's bunk room!  -Architectural Digest

-Jenna Lyons is leaving her post as president and executive creative director of J. Crew after 26 years.  The new creative director, Somsack Sikhounmuongwill no longer oversee all the intricate details Jenna did, like the store design and brand image.  I'm a bit sad because I loved how Jenna made each store feel like a visual experience, all the way down to the art books strewn throughout and the gallery walls behind the cash registers. It's the end of an era, and the New York Times had an interesting outlook on the change.  -The New York Times

-My new favorite account to stalk for visual inspiration.  -Instagram

-This is me right now, completely. -Man Repeller

-I can't stand the cuteness- tiny ballet dancers. - The New York Times

-An affordable alternative to those Gucci loafers we've all been loving. -Steve Madden

-Crushing hard on Caitlin Wilson's new line of rugs, especially this guy.  He'd work great as a door mat or bath mat in the 2' x 3' size, too! -domino

-I'm excited for another summer in the Hamptons, and want a cute one-piece for afternoons by the pool.  I love this option by Becca Prairie Rose, and think this t-shirt is hilarious, too. - Nordstrom

Happy Weekend, everyone!

XOXO,

Sam

Friday's Worthy Links- 11.4.16

It's Friday again, although it'd probably be better if we could just fast-forward to Wednesday!  Everyone (including me) has the election scaries and I'm just tired of dwelling on it.  Let's get the voting done and get on with our lives!  All this election gloom and doom is really getting to me.   I need to watch an episode of Oprah's "Super Soul Sunday" or down a martini, or probably both.  I wanted to focus on the positive for this post and link to uplifting, beautiful stories (and items, of course).  Read on for Friday's links...

Friday's Worthy Links

TGIF!  This week came and went like a flash and I feel like it was just Sunday.  I had a consuming week of work and play, which always makes my days fly by.   Any big weekend plans?  I'm planning to see this movie on Sunday after being consumed by the book. It wasn't QUITE as good as Gone Girl, but was definitely one that kept my attention.

Before signing off for the weekend, here are a few things I think you'd like:

-My work crew at Carrier & Co planned a Soul Cycle ride together, and it reminded me of one of my favorite workout video spoofs ever.

-Speaking of spoofs, SNL is BACK and the cold opening last week did not disappoint.

-How to travel like you're in a Wes Anderson movie.

-25 Stunning Home Libraries that are a Book Lover's Dream - including Houston decorator J Randall Powers's home library shown above.

-Social Menopause:  Have you gone through the change yet?  I'm with you, Amelia.

-The tassel earring trend continues, and I may have found my favorite pair yet.

-I was late to the Mad Men train by, I don't know........ 6 years?!  However, I'm currently binge watching the first season and I can't believe it's taken me this long because the show is E-P-I-C.  Here are a few behind-the-scenes photos from Rolling Stone.

-7 Life-Changing Essays you need to read now.

-A fun twist on the typical ruffle top.

Enjoy your weekend!

XOXO,

Sam

Labor Day Weekend

Happy (almost) Labor Day weekend!  After work today I am off to OKC to spend a few days relaxing with my family and playing with my niece and nephew!  I finally got around to reading this book after hearing rave reviews, and now I understand why it's been such a hit.  Sophia Amoruso has a such relatable style of writing and I feel genuinely inspired by her work ethic and energy.  I'm also officially hooked on this series.    Between playing Barbies with my niece, reading all the September issues hot off the press, and binge -watching Netflix, I can't wait to unwind with my family.

Do you guys have any plans in the works?    Whatever you do, I hope you have a great, long weekend!

Friday's Worthy Links

Happy Friday!  Any big plans for your weekend?  I'm starting mine off with a Soul Cycle class taught by one of my favorite instructors, Nick!  Here are a few things I loved from around the internet this week...

-I'm always looking for an excuse to gorge on Mexican food and it's almost Cinco de Mayo time!  I plan to try out this blood orange jalepeno margarita recipe this weekend in preparation.

-For all you lifetime learners, I've recently become obsessed with Skillshare.  Are you familiar with the site?  It's a global learning community for creatives, and you can take thousands of online classes.  I've already taken Strategic Storytelling- Building Community Around Your Creative Project, Four Steps to Double Your Productivity, and the Beginners Guide to Design Thinking.  Sound like something you'd be interested in?  Skillshare is kindly offering 3 months of unlimited classes for 99 cents to POTC readers, so go here to redeem and start getting inspired.

-In honor of yesterday being "Take Your Son or Daughter to Work Day", 13 Times Take Your Child to Work Day had Disastrous, Unexpected, or Adorable Results

-I've started listening to a lot more podcasts now that I take the subway and walk everywhere in New York.  My favorites are the Tim Ferriss Podcast, Monocycle by Leanda Medine, and Modern Love.  Joanna shared her Favorite 8 Podcasts, and I definitely want to check out Alec Baldwin's.

-When I'm not listening to podcasts on the subway, I'm reading A Tree Grows in Brooklyn.  My mom bought it for me when we were visiting the Tenement Museum (a must-do when visiting New York) as it was her favorite book growing up.  It's beautifully-written, and chock full of great life lessons.

-I've been a big fan of Lindsay Speace from The Pursuit of Style and her beautiful interior design work, and the recent nursery reveal she shared did not disappoint.  That ceiling wallpaper, though.  Swoon.

-For my next Bumble date, I'm going to suggest we try Uber Yacht.  Hopefully there's no surge pricing on this mode of transportation.

-I love beauty with a cause. Clarins and FEED have teamed up once again in an effort to provide 1 million meals to children around the world in 17 days.   The initiative started April 22nd and runs through May 8th, and nine retailers are offering a FEED 10 pouch filled with deluxe Clarins products.  Each pouch provides 10 meals to children, helping them grow, learn, and thrive.  Learn more here.

Happy Weekend!

Friday's Worthy Links

What are your plans for the weekend?  I am relaxing tonight, and then headed to Free Press Summer Fest tomorrow and Sunday.  This is my outfit inspiration for the festival.  I'm also hoping to get in some quality pool time.

A few links from around the web I loved this week...

- I love when bloggers are authentic and real- and Bri Emery is no exception. In a very vulnerable (and relatable) post,  Bri has invited us to follow along on her journey to better health and weight loss.

-Speaking of authentic, Sheryl Sandberg's heart-wrenching Facebook post about losing her husband really touched me.  She also sheds light on what you can do to be most supportive as a friend or family member of someone who's experienced great loss.

-I struggle with this all the time, but I'm determined to get better at it. I want to share my life and tell my story honestly and without fear.

-After speaking about all the great books I'm reading this past Wednesday, I'm embarrassed to admit Nicole Cohen of Sketch 42 convinced me to buy this book when she wrote this post (Insert monkey emoticon with hands over eyes).

-I'm a huge Amy Schumer fan, and her acceptance speech for the Trailblazer award at the Glamour Woman of the Year awards banquet was priceless.  It left me in tears I was laughing so hard. Warning- NSFW!

-One of my favorite movies of all time is The Shining.  This trailer shows what the movie would've been like if Wes Anderson had directed it.

Happy Weekend!!

Weekend Getaway to Austin

Hallelujah for Friday!!!  My roommate and I collectively decided we were long overdue for a weekend getaway, so we've packed our bags and plan to drive to Austin this afternoon.  A relative of hers has a loft right in the middle of the city, only steps away from our favorite Austin bar, Handlebar, and is kind enough to let us stay there frequently.  We plan to eat at Swift's Attic tonight and then hit the town.  Saturday, we're going to lay by the pool and maybe do some stand up paddle boarding.

My roommate's dad lives out in the hill country on a ranch, so in true Texas form we plan to horseback ride and hike on Sunday, and maybe visit Hamilton Pool.  I'm so glad the weather is supposed to be beautiful and we can get outside for a few days!

When I get back from Austin, I am flying up to Oklahoma City for my grandma's funeral on Monday.  I've called her my "Nanny" all my life, and she passed away this past Wednesday at the age of 93.  Thankfully, she went very peacefully while in hospice and is no longer in pain.  I have so many fun memories of growing up and spending the weekend at her house, and getting to eat cinnamon toast and M&Ms in bed.  This is one of my favorite pictures of us together, circa 1988:

Rest in peace, Nanny!!

Do you have anything fun planned for the weekend?
