Sneaker Style

I'm not a sneakers type of girl.  I think the last pair of tennis shoes I wore were my beloved Asics for high school cheerleading (that wasn't exactly yesterday, my friends).  However, one thing about me is I have always been drawn to mixed element dressing just as I have been drawn to mixed element interiors.  Pairing a fitted pea coat with Chuck Taylors and a Missoni scarf?  Um, yes please!  It's the unexpected that draws my attention, as well as the "I could care less what you think" vibe it sends:

I think we are becoming more and more comfortable with breaking the fashion rules of yesteryear and questioning long-held fashion beliefs, such as- Why can't I pair tennis shoes with leather pants?  Who says I have to wear killer heels to look put together?

Although I haven't completely embraced the high top sneaker trend as seen in this last picture, I dig the girls who can rock it.

I'm curious to know- what are your thoughts on sneaker style?

P.S.- Warm welcome to my newest sponsor, Cakewalk Style Shop!  I frequent their store and site to quench my Haute Hippie, Joie and Tibi cravings.  Check 'em out!

  4. I like that these looks still look "put together". My only criticism of sneaker style has been the schlub factor that often goes along with it (by the way- totally guilty myself of this). Paired with leather pants and colorful skinnies though, it's clear here that comfortable style can still look like you made an effort.

  5. All of those girls look so chic, you wouldn't even realize they were wearing sneakers. I wonder, how we could pull off the same looks without looking ridiculous (as I would feel). It probably helps to have model-long legs! lol. Great post and nice inspiration. I'm totally inspired!

  7. Yes, yes, yes. I just jumped on this bandwagon yesterday with a pair of bright red Saucony Bullet's I found at TJ Maxx. So comfy and the red is a nice pop against my mostly black wardrobe.

  8. I've been wanting some plain white converse for a while but never bought them because I didn't know how to wear them without looking like a kid. Love these pics.

  19. LOVE all these looks! I was very much a heels girl when I lived in the city, but now I'm more of a sneaker girl in the small towns I find myself in. You can't go wrong with some Chucks or Isabel Marant inspired high top wedges!

  20. I'm just like you, Sam! Don't know the last time I wore tennis (that's what my mom called them growing up and it stuck!) but I love the mixed look. Maybe I should dig up my converse?!
