The One Room Challenge

What have I gotten myself in to, friends?  I eagerly agreed to participate in the infamous One Room Challenge last October, thinking I had plenty of time to get my room ideas together before February.  Well, as it always seems to go, time slipped away from me.

In case you are not familiar with the "One Room Challenge,”  let me explain.  I, along with nineteen other bloggers (see their links at the end of this post) have been presented with the challenge of re-doing one room in my home over a six week time period, sharing my progress along the way. I have been blabbing on and on to you guys for months that I would love to make my vision for a "home office" become a reality.  I think it's finally time to make it happen!  I currently have a room in my town home that is completely empty.  It's an awkward transition room, that sits just off the guest bedroom.  Here are a few pictures I took when I first toured the house.  They had staged it with furniture and accessories, most of which were quite boring in my opinion:

The room also has a bar with a mini fridge, which made me originally want to turn it in to an entertainment area when I first moved in.  However, the living room provides plenty of space for entertaining, and this room never gets utilized (especially with nothing in it!)

And here is another view of the room, as it looked when it was staged:

Now don't get me wrong- you know I love my neutrals.  But the vibe of this room as it was decorated above is not conducive to a high-energy workspace.

With nothing to start with but a vision of a colorful, textured office space, I have my work cut out for me.  I hope you will follow along as I share my updates!  I already have a desk picked out, and can't wait to share it with you next week.

Here are the other bloggers participating:

Wish us luck!

  3. Can't wait to see what becomes of this room Sam! Will you ever host clients in your workspace or will it be exclusively a space for you to design and create?

  4. Cool to have a bar in the office. Kinda reminds me of Mad Men. I would definitely have a 5 O'clock cocktail at my desk on Friday's. I really love beautiful work spaces. I don't have room for an office of that size, so this will be fun to envy. Can't wait.

  24. I am so dying for an office space! Perhaps after I get my guest room finished I can clean out my other guest room which has become more of a staging room...and make it an office. I need a space where I can shut the door if it gets out of control :) Can't wait to see how this space unfolds!
