Fireplace Chic

Unfortunately, this past Saturday in New York was chilly and rainy once again.  I spent the day curled up watching movies (I loved this one) to try and stay warm and out of the gross weather.  While I had my trusty space heater warming my feet on the sofa, I longed for a fireplace instead.  New York is known for it's beautiful Pre-War apartments with their petite, original fireplaces, but rarely do they work.  Even so, I'd kill for a gorgeous marble mantle in my living room.  Here are a few of my favorite looks:

The fireplace above is located at Haven's Kitchen here in NY, and I love the juxtaposition of a Victorian-style fireplace mixed with immaculate detailing with modern furnishings.

I love the veining and patina on this pretty mantle:

Extending the marble to the ceiling has become characteristic of more modern fireplaces, and this particular marble slab is a work of art:

This rustic, stone fireplace is delicious and reminds me of John Saladino.  I also love the modern andirons and petite lamps:

While we typically see stone, brick, or marble fireplace surrounds, designer Jules Thomas created this bronze and nickel beauty for a home in Seattle, featured in Luxe Source:

But sometimes, a simple white mantle with pretty detailing is enough to do the trick:

Do you have a fireplace at your apartment or home?  What style are you most drawn to- sleek and modern, or architecturally ornate and detailed?

  3. Wow thank for sharing great collection , t's not just the heat that makes an indoor fire so enticing - the smell, the sound, the warm soft light; it is almost impossible to replicate the atmosphere conjured by a real, roaring log fire.
