My Halloween Costume

So I have officially decided on my Halloween costume for this year:  Holly Golightly!  I know what you're thinking. "Sam, you're blonde, you're short, and you don't look like a ballet dancer.  How are you going to pull this off?"  To which I respond, "So what?!  It's Halloween.  We all get to pretend to be something we're not."

Truman Capote was a true genius.  Breakfast at Tiffany's has immortalized itself in our hearts, and who couldn't love the carefree Holly?  I know I'm not alone in my love for this movie.  I could watch it again and again and again, and never get tired of it.  I love how Holly is initially presented as an easy-going, freedom-loving young woman, but as the movie progresses we see the depth to her character.  We see her fear of commitment, of being hurt, or living an "ordinary" life.  And let's not forget how Audrey made us idolize the LBD on a completely new level.

The best part about this costume is that I already have most of the pieces- pearls, cat eye sunglasses, LBD, and black pumps.  Plus I get to hold a vintage cigarette holder all night.
I am going to wear a brooch in my hair, similar to the art deco one below.  For the necklace, I plan to clip another brooch around a strand of pearls:

Charm & Chain Art Deco Brooch $195/The Row cat eye acetate sunglasses $445/Fallon Jewelry 3-Strand Pearl Necklace $115/Kenneth Jay Lane Crystal Brooch $209/Black Dress $276/Black Evening Gloves $30/Vintage Cigarette Holder $2/Modcloth Black Pumps $30/

What are you going to be for Halloween?!  Admittedly this is my favorite holiday, and I can't wait for the parties this weekend.

Happy Tuesday!!

  3. I hate to admit it, but I have never watched Breakfast at Tiffany's. Maybe I will add that to my list of things to do on my day off today or tomorrow!!

  10. You're totally going to rock this look! Maybe get a wig? I think the blonde hair would be the only thing in your way but you can definitely work around that one :)

  15. Yayyyyy I was Holly GoLightly a few years back! It's such a great costume and you will look great. I wore it in residence at my first year of university and I remember feeling so classy among all the other 'costumes', if you know what I mean. Next time I get dressed up for Halloween (probably not this year sadly) I wanted to be her again, this time either with her tassel earplug and sleeping mask or her cat mask and orange coat.

I have a post scheduled later this week featuring that costume and a pumpkin I carved of Audrey (obvi my idol) so stay tuned! xoxo

  25. I went as Holly a couple years ago and it is hands down my favorite costume *EVER*! But I definitely didn't have all the color accessories that you do! It's going to be awesome! This year I sewed pieces of a feather boa around the hem and shoulders of my LBD and I'm going to pile on as much jewelry as I possibly can and call myself a Magpie. Too fun! I adore Halloween!!!
