Pool Season

It's Monday again, and after a long getaway weekend in Austin, I'm still craving more pool time.  I spent yesterday morning reading and swimming at the Barton Springs pool.  Have any of you Texans been there?  I love it!  It's such a fun spot and I love that it's a natural pool and home to the endangered Barton Springs Salamander.  As we begin another work week, I thought it would be fun to share a few beautifully-designed pools and their surrounding landscapes.   Architect Nick Noyes designed this lap pool in a client's backyard, and the waterfall and surrounding greenery are lovely.

And what could we expect from Tory Burch other than a stately pool house with trelliswork details?

I love the minimalist feel of this pool, with it's cast-concrete walls and steps.  The shape of the pool is interesting, as well!

Located in Southern France, this 80s residence was given new life by ML-H Design.  The clear water is calling my name.  Now, if only this house was listed on Behomm.

Taking in to account the details when designing a pool can be just as important as designing an interior.  I love the pattern of black and white tiles surrounding the edges of this one, as well as the adjacent chic cabana.

I could definitely lounge in this picturesque outdoor space for hours.

One of my all-time favorite designers, Suzanne Kasler, has a stunning backyard with a serene pool at her Atlanta home.  I love the Janus et Cie bench, too!

Speaking of Atlanta, I am heading there tomorrow for work.  I can't wait to visit the city and maybe have time to do a few fun things and reconnect with a few friends.  Atlanta people- any store or restaurant recommendations?

Happy Monday!!

Weekend Getaway

Happy Friday!!  How is your day going?  The sun is shining and I am about to hit the road for Dallas, so I couldn't be happier.  I am headed up to the Big D to meet up with lots of blogger friends who are in town for the Reward Style Conference.

Tonight, Albertina, Gaby, Gabrielle, and Elizabeth and I are going to dinner at Stampede 66.  Tomorrow, I plan to lounge poolside, sip mojitos and relax.  I'd also like to visit Blue Print and Ceylon et Cie to shop for a few projects and get inspired.  A mini-vacay of sorts.
Feel free to follow along on Instagram (@peakoftreschic).

Dallas peeps- any recs for shops to check out or favorite restaurants while in town?

Happy Weekend!

I'm Melting

I'm being a little hypocritical today.  I've always found people who complain about the weather to be a tad annoying.  We live in a world where most people can walk inside for air conditioning/heating at their leisure!  But still... it hit the 100s in Houston this past weekend, my air conditioning has been on the fritz, and I felt rather miserable (again, sorry, I know it's wrong to complain when some people don't have a house at all!).  So today, while trying to stay cool with iced lattes and frozen yogurt, I thought I'd share a little something refreshing for the eyes:  a glam hotel in the heart of St. Barth's- La Banane:

Staying in one of their nine bungalows would be a dream.  Until that day comes, Assouline's In the Spirit of Saint Barths and the pictures above will have to suffice.   How are you staying cool today?

Slim Aarons Poolside

This is the time of year I don't like.  January and February... when Christmas has come and gone and all that's left is dreary weather.  I start to crave a beach vacation.  Lucky for me, my boyfriend is Australian and it just so happens to be summer there!  In 11 weeks (not that I'm counting or anything) we are headed to Sydney to visit his family and enjoy the sunshine.  In the meantime, I need some sunny images to keep me from sinking in to the winter doldrums... and  Poolside with Slim Aarons is just what the doctor ordered:

Slim Aarons is regarded as one of the most influential magazine photographers of his time (1916-2006).   Poolside highlights beautiful, glittering people living the glamorous life, poolside of course. It's one coffee table book still on my wishlist. How could you not be happy looking at these images?

It's time I emerge from my all-black winter uniform and start stocking up on colorful pieces for the Australian getaway... don't you think?

Backyard Bliss

Living in a sorority house, various apartments and townhomes for the past 7 years has given me a serious craving for my own yard.  I love to lay by the pool, read in a hammock, and garden, and it would be a dream to have my own backyard to do all of these things!  With the sunny spring weather surrounding me, I had an urge to share pretty backyard pools and gardens today.

Weekend Wear

It's officially summertime in Texas!  In the high 80s today, I am nearly sweating in a sundress and flip flops!  As a true summer girl, I wouldn't have it any other way.  I love warm weather!  Here's my ideal weekend outfit:  A bold Rebecca Taylor dress, classic aviators, baubles by Loren Hope, wedges, and a cork clutch to wear to a friend's birthday celebration.  A bandeau swimsuit from Old Navy, a floppy beach hat and beach bag, and a Missoni towel for laying out by the pool on Saturday.   Happy Friday!
