Color Crush: Saffron Yellow

Happy Wednesday!  I love that we are already halfway through the week.  Did you have a good Memorial Day?  I came back so relaxed and rejuvenated after a weekend stay at Oohla Bean.  I can't wait to share pictures and recap the trip for you, but before I dive in to that I just want to take a moment to enjoy a little color.  Although I have never before been particularly drawn to yellow, this year I can't seem to get enough of it.  I love seeing interior designers use the hue in fresh, contemporary applications that don't feel stuffy.  One of my favorite shades of yellow is saffron- a golden yellow that resembles the color of the tip of the saffron crocus thread, from which the spice saffron is derived. Houston-based designer Eleanor Cummings infused this sunroom with a mix of bright colors, but the golden yellows really stand out:

To me, yellow always mixes well with blue.  I love to see various tones of one hue in the same room.

Yellow can also make a statement when standing alone. How fabulous is this glossy yellow front door from a house in Palm Springs?

Are you a fan of saffron yellow?  If so, what color do you most love to see it paired with?

Color Crush: Canary Yellow (Pt. 2)

Did you guys watch the Golden Globes on Sunday?  I recorded it and haven't had a chance to sit down and watch it just yet (although I heard Amy Poehler and Tina Fey's Cosby commentary was on point), but of course I stalked the fashion sites to see what all the stars wore.  Without a doubt my favorite look was Naomi Watts' gorgeous yellow Gucci gown.  To top it off, her accessories were perfect.  I LOVE her necklace and red lip:

Yellow is such a bold and fun choice for the red carpet, and it immediately reminded me of my color crush post last week on canary yellow.  I find it equally as appealing for fashion as I do for interior design.  And although I realize most of us will not be donning a floor length gown any time soon, I did find a suitable alternative look with fun, punchy accessories:

Color Crush: Canary Yellow

When I saw the January/February issue of Elle Decor, I was instantly drawn to the vintage canary yellow armchairs in this Milan apartment living room.  They remind me of a modernized version of Marcel Breur's cantilever chair:

This gorgeous space belongs to J.J. Martin, a fashion journalist who spent the past few years renovating this lovely top-floor apartment in Milan.   In my opinion, the magazine is worth picking up for this article alone, simply because the apartment tour is full of fabulous finds and well-edited rooms.  It's truly remarkable how much of a statement a pop of yellow can make in a room:

Canary yellow also makes quite a lovely fashion statement....

...lest we forget the canary Vera Wang gown Michelle Williams donned at the 78th Academy Awards?

And I LOVE to see the hue paired with turquoise or navy:

The bold colors play so well together.

So tell me- are you a fan, too?

Color Crush: (Not so) Mellow Yellow

I've always been a bit apathetic towards the color yellow, but the latest issue of House Beautiful has rekindled my interest in the hue.  The intensity of the color gives it a modern freshness. Because I find it so over-powering, it only works for me in small doses.  For instance, how fab is this headboard in Tilton Finwick designer Anne Maxwell Foster's bedroom, featured in this month's issue?

I LOVE her room down to all the details.  The Farrow & Ball wallpaper, the Hickory Chair side tables, the bedding with the hint of lime in the bedskirt, the abstract art- it's all FAB!  The pop of yellow is just the icing on the cake.  Here are a few more yellow pops I adore:

I don't know if I would enjoy having yellow on my bedroom walls, a place where I'd like to feel relaxed.  But I do love that Stephen Schubel paired the yellow walls here with a neutral palette of whites and browns:
