Labor Day Whites

Post Labor Day this year, I say we throw caution (and convention) to the wind and don all the whites we want to.    Cateye glasses? Why not.  Puka shell necklaces? In the right context.... why not. Popped white collars?  Again... in the right context, why not?  This girl's ensemble nails all three:

While I'm prone to love a good splash of color, the simplicity of an all-white interior can create a chic jumping off point for decorative elements- like art, rugs, or accessories-  to really stand out:

I am headed to Morocco this November, so this all-white hotel aesthetic caught my eye:

One of my all-time favorite child's play rooms is by Denmark blogger Mortil Mernee.  The combination of white walls, painted white floor, and white round table are anything but drab when paired with carefree artwork and a mid-century pendant (this would've been cool, too):

Loving this creative use of an attic space- lighter colors often really help to maximize the perceived space available in a room:

A few more all-white looks I love:

and this, this, these, and pretty much all of this:

PS- I am currently on a flight back to NY after visiting family in OKC, and have watched two excellent movies so far- Stockholm & Rocketman.  If you haven't seen one or the other, I highly, highly recommend.

Color Crush: All Things Purple

I just got back from a family trip to Walt Disney World, which could've been one of my favorite vacations to date.  I know it sounds crazy, but watching the pure joy in my 5 year-old niece and 3 year-old nephew's faces when they experienced the parks for the first time was really special.   I'm feeling inspired today by my niece Lily's favorite color: purple!  I don't usually gravitate towards the hue, but I've come across a few spaces lately that are killer and happen to have violet in them.  The first is this bedroom designed by Jeffrey Bilhuber (one of my favorite designers ever):

Another Jeffrey Bilhuber stunner (I'd take a purple sectional over a beige one any day):

The other space with purple touches is this drop-dead gorgeous bedroom  in Alexa Hampton's New York apartment:

The mix of reds, mauves and purples is just divine here.  I love the juxtaposition of casual batik textiles with Fortuny bedhangings and upholstered walls.

The scalamandre le tigre on the neoclassical chair above is one of my favorite fabrics  (here's a pillow version I love), and it looks stunning amongst all the purple hues.

Here are more touches of purple to love...

Lighter lilac tones are soothing, especially so when in t-shirt  or pajama form (these sheets seem incredibly soft, too!) And it's even better when they have price tags like this and this.

I also stumbled upon Target swimwear and learned that currently they are offering a buy one get one 50% off sale- which means I might have to snag this and this, which feel universally flattering.

A touch of purple here and there in the home is lovely, too.  I love thisthis, and these particularly.  Anthropologie also has a lot of gorgeous rugs with purple tones in them.

Next up, I'll get around to writing a travel guide post for Disney!

Color Punch

Two recent discoveries of mine have put me in a mood for c-o-l-o-r and more color.  The first is discovering the portfolio of London-based interior designer Antonia Stewart.  Her work is certainly not devoid of bright, bold, hues used creatively.  I particularly love this powder bath she designed with the walls covered in Penguin classics:

Also note the toilet paper dispenser, disguised as a vintage camera.  How cool is that?  Another favorite space of mine that Antonia created was this master bath with a coral pink tub:

My other recent colorful discovery was Ashley Whittaker's latest project, which graces the pages of House Beautiful this month:

Black Magic

Tomorrow I am heading to New Orleans to celebrate New Years with a group of my friends from New York.  I've been to Nola two times before but never really had a good experience, so I'm hopeful the third time's the charm.  I definitely want to visit some favorite antique shops along Magazine Street and maybe partake in an architecture bike tour.  We plan to try a sandwich at Turkey and the Wolf, now that it has been named "The #1 Best New Restaurant of 2017". I'm also working to convince my friends to do a Ghost and Vampire Tour with me- I'm fascinated by all the black magic and voodoo the city is known for.   To prepare for the spirit of the Big Easy,  I thought I'd share all the moody dark hues I'm inspired by today:

Seasoned New Orleaners, please share with me your favorite spots in the city on instagram here, or in the comments.

Peace out 2017!

XOXO,

Sam

A Touch of Red

My favorite pop of color this season seems to be red.  I plan to purchase a red puffer jacket for winter, and I'd love to have a chic wool option, as well.  It's such a happy splash of color to wear in the cooler months when my gut tells me to wear black on black on black.

Linda Rodin looking fabulous with a bold red lip.  Rodin's hair turned gray at 35, and she's never dyed it since (you go, girl).

Sienna Miller is my ultimate style inspiration.  She's always struck me as a true bohemian spirit- never too put together or predictable, yet always effortlessly beautiful.
