Best of: Black Friday &Cyber Monday 2019

Happy Thanksgiving 2019! I am currently stuffed, with family, watching Martin Scorsese's The Irishman on Netflix.  My parents always have the family over to their house for Thanksgiving.  Below I'm posing with my cousin's kids and my niece, Lily, in the orange:

The silver earrings I'm wearing were a random find on my recent trip to Istanbul (which was fabulous and unforgettable- I'll be sure to do a longer recap blog post soon) and my outfit is Missoni-esque but from Anthro by way of my mother's closet.

Speaking of clothes, gone are the days when I'd wake up at the crack of dawn with my high school friends to try and scour Black Friday sales.  Who has the time or energy these days, especially when everything is online?  Whether it be a new laptop, a cashmere sweater, a chic winter coat, a cute pair of booties, a new TV, or even fresh home accents- now is the time of the year to get the very best deals, especially when combined with Cyber Monday.  Below are a few of my favorite current sales:

Top 10 Faves: 40% Off Shopbop Surprise Sale

I'm not one to particularly enjoy "surprises."  I generally like to be in the driver's seat and know what to expect from any endeavor.  My need for control is one of the many reasons I've started a daily meditation practice (but that's a topic for another day).

However, one surprise I won't object to is a large surprise SALE- especially if it's hosted by a website I truly love.  For the next 3 days, Shopbop will be hosting a surprise 40% off sale on over 1,000 different pieces.  The best part?  Fall and winter items are included among the markdowns!  Now is the time to snag that expensive bathing suit you loved for next summer, stock up on winter sweaters and boots, and snag that leather mini that would be perfect with sheer tights and boots.  I would definitely suggest scouring the pages for unique finds that speak to you- but in case you're curious, here are my favorite 10 pieces from the sale.

1.) Etoile Bustier Ruffle Hem Dess, $59:

2.) BB Dakota Faux Suede Skirt, $78:

3.) Tavik Elodie Jumpsuit, $85:

4.) RTA Beckett Top, $206.50:

5.) Blank Denim Snake Along Jeans, $39.20:

6.) Lioness Bad Romance Blazer Jacket, $100.80:

7.) She Made Me Crochet Off the Shoulder Dress, $269.50:

8.) Soho Long Down Jacket, $475:

9.) Loeffler Randall Penny Slides in Snakeskin, $276.50:

10.) Cupcakes and Cashmere Harmoni Dress, $59:

Other eye-catching items from the sale to note...

-Cutest faux fur coat I've seen in a long while, and this one is sure to keep you warm.

-Now is the time to stock up on snow boots

-This looks both cozy + sexy enough for holiday parties, throw this over it for a festive look.

-Everyone's favorite mules, this time in a new print.  Also adore these.

-Pretty little things under $100:  these, this, this, this, and this.

Boho Vibes

It's an exciting time of year- fall.  I feel that right now we are having the best of both worlds in New York:  The energy and excitement that only a changing season can bring, yet summer-like temperatures remain.  In fact, it's 80 degrees outside right now as I eat a bowl of Egyptian red-lentil soup (sidenote- if you haven't tried Juice Press soups, you're missing out).  Next month I am traveling to Istanbul, Cairo, and Marrakech with a good friend, and I've been watching movies based in these cities for fun.  Last night I watched Hideous Kinky, which stars Kate Winslet and is based in Marrakech.  It wasn't the best movie, but the bohemian vibes of the setting and the main character's lifestyle spoke to me.  In fact, I've been gravitating towards all things 70s-esque lately:

1.) Soludu Leather Mules, $148/

2.) Kershaw Upholstered Chair, $1,198/

3.) Floral Mesh Top, $15/

4.) Juju Hat I, $395/

5.) Penelope Hoop Earrings, $36/ i also really dig these.

6.) Flare jeans in lasalle wash, $128/ - these are cute, too!

7.) Stephanie Vovas Photograph/

8.) Contrast Straw Fedora, $12

I'm also dying to add Ibiza Bohemia by Assouline to my coffee table book collection$78/ - this one is great, too.

Lastly, I'll leave you with a few instagram accounts to follow for all the 70s nostalgia you could ever want....

Palette Cleanse

New York has been incessantly rainy and gray for the last two weeks, and now that Labor Day is behind us, the reality of fall is settling in.   As usual, I'm definitely not ready to say goodbye to summer.  This one was particularly sweet- I had two design installs, spent a few weekends in the Hamptons and one in Nantucket, and I fell in loooveee.  Nevertheless, a change in season is always the perfect time to step back, re-access goals, and cleanse the palette for a fresh start.

Target Strikes Again

Happy Monday!  Have you all shopped the Who What Wear x Target collaboration yet?  It launched in August but I haven’t had a chance to really peruse the pieces til this past weekend.  It doesn’t help that there are roughly 2 Targets in Manhattan and they are located far from my neighborhood.  Maybe the silver lining is I’m not able to just “pop in” and leave with $150 worth of products that I wasn’t shopping for in the first place (gotta love Tar-jay).  But since I finally had a chance to shop online, I realized how many great fall pieces Who What Wear designed for their Target campaign.  Here are a few of my favorites, and a few other chic pieces from Target’s other lines (hi Gucci slide and Chloe scalloped flat lookalikes...):

Shop this Board:

1.) Bishop Sleeve Red Sweater $28/2.) Who What Wear Lace and Satin Midi Dress $37/3.) Crushin' It

I'll never forget my first piece of crushed velvet clothing- a Limited Too turtleneck with cropped sleeves in a purple-y silver (at the time, Rachel Geller was wearing it, too!).  That top was the hot ticket item of the season and every girl in my 3rd grade had a version of it.  As they say, all that's old eventually becomes new again- and crushed velvet is BACK!  I'm not ready to bring out the turtleneck just yet, but here are a few cute crushed velvet accents I'm digging:

Shop Crushed Velvet:

1.) Crushed Velvet Superga Sneakers $128/2.) Velvet Flounced Mini Skirt $12.90/3.) Knox Rose Gray Tank, $22.90/4.) Ruthie Velvet French Mattress Floor Cushions $49/each5.) Crushed Velvet Minaudière $696.) Moon River Pleated Velvet Skirt $85/7.) Crushing Hard Velvet Heel $45/

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale: My Style Picks

The big Nordstrom Anniversary Sale has begun for Nordstrom card holders, and soon it will be open to everyone this Friday.  This sale is different than most normal sales because they slash prices on the hottest items from the approaching season.  After the sale is over, the items won't simply disappear from the website- they'll still be listed, but back at the regular prices.  When retailers have a crazy sale, it's typically because they're trying to get rid of items left in inventory that aren't moving at their current price.  Swimsuits 70% off at the end of August are great, but you likely won't be able to enjoy them till the following summer, when newer styles will be out.   I always utilize the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale to purchase essential pieces I know I'll wear all fall and winter, like a smart winter coat at 30% off or the designer "it" bag for nearly half off.  Here are a few other favorites from the sale:

Shop Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Picks:

1.) Madewell Checkmate Fringe Scarf $38.90 (Normally $59.90)

2.) Skagen Anita Leather Strap Watch $99 (Normally $155)

3.) Precious Metal Earrings $29.90 (Normally $46)

4.)  Kensie Skirted Tweed Coat $139.90 (Normally $218).  And I also love this guy.

5.) Halogen Corbin Genuine Calf Hair Slide $59.90 (Normally $89.95)

6.) Wool Blend Missoni Scarf $139 (Normally $212)

7.) Rebecca Minkoff Small Love Nuback Crossbody Bag $149.90 (Normally $255)

8.) North Face ThermoBall Prima Lift Hooded Parka in Eggplant $169.90 (Normally $230)

9.) Vince Camuto Fileana Split Shaft Bootie $99 (Normally $149.95).  For a taller option to carry you through the winter, I love these.

10.) Mother Denim High Waist Crop Bootcut Jeans $149.90 (Normally $235)

11.) Rebecca Taylor Cotton Shirtdress $196.90 (Normally $295)

12.) J. Crew Tipped Pajama Shirt $57.90 (Normally $78)

Currently Coveting: Gray for Fall

Happy fall!  It's definitely in full-swing here in NYC, as I wore my heavy North Face jacket last weekend (which, in hindsight, might've been slightly dramatic). The best part of the season to me is getting to layer up multiple pieces, and I tend to stick with neutral tones to coordinate them and get the most wear out of them.   Lately, when it comes to fashion, the hue I'm most drawn to is gray.  From the blanket jackets to the chunky boots to the tunics- the looks are beautiful:

And here are 5 gray items I've got my eye on...

What's your take?  Are you feeling gray for the fall?

XOXO,

Sam

Get the Look: Minimal Chic

Today I am honored to have my good friend and New York PR powerhouse Victoria Natenzon with us sharing a few effortless fall ensembles with versatile pieces from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale.   Vicky and I met soon after I relocated to NYC and she's the type of person you naturally gravitate towards.  She lights up any room or party she enters and is full of kindness and warmth.  Her PR firm represents a few big NY brands and bloggers and knows all the latest and greatest when it comes to fashion, food, and beauty.  She keeps me in the New York know and always is impeccably dressed. That's why I was thrilled she obliged when I asked her to put together a look or two for the upcoming season:

Left Look:  Leonard II Round Sunglasses $173.90/T-Shirt $19/Hudson Nico Skinny Jeans $134.90/Vince Camuto Lace Up Pumps $79.90/

Middle Accessories: Thea Adjustable Lariat Necklace $49.90/Tory Burch Black Robinson Handbag $295/Pave Bracelet $59.90/Pink Lips Set $50

Right Look: Faux Leather Jacket $98/Jogger Pants $29.90/Sam Edelman Tonia Spike Heels $110/

I love the downtown “model” chic look. It’s so versatile!  All you have to do is switch out a couple elements and you can wear the outfit to work, dinner, or out on the town. With the leather jacket as the key piece, you can pair it with the black ripped jeans and a classic pair of pointy toe pumps. Wear it with the white t-shirt for a more casual look or with a black t-shirt so it appears to be a little dressier. I love dainty jewelry so you can pair the look with a simple, pretty necklace and a delicate bracelet.

For a really cool, but slightly more “daring” look, try switching out the black jeans with the grey lounge pants.  It’s something a little funkier for a downtown, casual dinner with girlfriends.

If you’re anything like me, you can’t leave the house without your sunnies. I’m a little too obsessed with these Illesteva cuties. I purchased a pair three years ago and haven’t let them go since. My style constantly changes and I get sick of things rather quickly, but I recently had to re-purchase this pair because I just love them so much!

Last but not least – makeup. I’m a beauty girl at heart. I’ve worked in beauty my whole life and you’ll rarely find me completely barefaced. In recent months I’ve definitely toned down my beauty routine, but I still have a few non-negotiables. Eyeliner, mascara and lipstick. I can’t live without my felt-tip liners to create the perfect cat eye and red lipstick that’s basically the perfect accessory for any outfit. Although, I’m not gonna lie – the nude lip trend as well as a soft pink look has totally been growing on me and I’m absolutely crushing on this amazing Bobbi Brown set from the sale!
