Color Burst: A New Jersey Farmhouse Tour

I love a home with unabashed splashes of color.  It is quite difficult to design a home with bold, contrasting hues and have the final result feel clean and tasteful- but Jeffrey Bilhuber managed to do just that.  Jeffrey was hired to re-do a family’s New Jersey farmhouse, and the bright colors dance from room to room:

Right when you enter you see this stunning staircase landing.  The staircase is painted in a vivid green (Benjamin Moore's Brookside Moss) and glossy black (Benjamin Moore's Safety Black), and the Missoni stair runner adds an additional element of fun:

The family room is light and bright and carries in a bit of that beautiful green from the staircase.  The sofa is upholstered in one of my favorite indoor/outdoor textiles- Perennials Nit Witty.

The kitchen cabinetry is painted in a subtle white, allowing the glossy purple backsplash tiles and avocado green island to stand out.  The red barstools are adorable, too!  Jeffrey built the kitchen table at the same height as the island, so the two can be pushed together when entertaining.

The bright green Bridgewater sofa is my favorite single piece of furniture in the home.  The sofa is upholstered in Designer Guild’s Cassia fabric.  I love the Dan Walsh pieces displayed above, too!

Fresh lavender sits on each side of the sofa:

The library features purple walls, which makes the room feel more intimate and dramatic.  And any room looks fab when Stark antelope carpet is included:

The living room features double-height walls for a grand statement.  Due to the size, Jeffrey created several seating arrangements to break up the space and make it feel less overwhelming.

More pattern and color splash through the master bedroom.  I love that Bilhuber chose an old-world gingham for the draperies.  A touch of traditional in this otherwise bold and daring farmhouse is a welcomed touch.

Have a great Thursday!!

XOXO,

Sam

Color Jolt

While looking through the archives of designlovefest last week, I came across a trio of colors so divine I couldn't stand it.  Bri and her office created a metallic balloon DIY for their studio and the mix of fuchsia, neon yellow and turquoise blue has me inspired.  I've been on a chartreuse kick this year, which is odd because I've never really been a big yellow person- it's typically too jarring for me.  However, I keep noticing that I'm being drawn over and over again to this pretty yellow-green hue. I was going to devote an entire "color crush" post to chartreuse, but noticed I've already written about the color here and here this year- so I think an obsession is building. To change it up a bit, I wanted to focus on the color trio I spotted on bri's blog instead- with a dose of neon chartreuse in the mix:

Needing, Wanting, Loving: Bold Walls

I've always admired a room that didn't play it safe.  Juxtaposing bold, lacquered walls with chinoiserie wallpaper, adding an ironic piece of art, or simply mixing and layering contrasting patterns can create life and energy to a space.  Today I wanted to discuss the power and drama of painting a room's walls in a bold color.  One option is to do the hallways of a home a bright, unexpected hue, like this deep green, while keeping the main living spaces a more subtle color:

And nothing says sexy quite like a dark black wall and an antiqued mirror in a bedroom-

Tilton Fenwick lacquered this bookshelf as well as the adjoining walls in a delicious teal.

Talk about a sultry office- this charcoal grasscloth office paired with a sexy photograph and a wall of mirrors makes for an inspiring work space:

Chocolate brown walls?  Yes please.  I also love the graphic carpet:

The kelly green shown in a graphic wallpapered ceiling works perfectly with the wall color in this Hamptons home:

Would you be brave enough to slather your walls in a bold hue?

What would be your go-to color?

Pattern Play with Sadie + Stella

Today we have the wonderful Lindsay Dress of Sadie + Stella fame sharing her take on an eclectic, patterned living room vignette.  Lindsay is a real-life best friend whom I initially connected with through the blogosphere (yes, true love can happen via the internet!)

**************************************************************************

Hi Peak of Très Chic lovers! I am Lindsay from Sadie + Stella Design. I am an insurance broker, a designer, a blogger, and real life friend to Sam. She is my ride or die chick. When she asked me to take the wheel while she was sunning and funning in Australia, I was peanut butter and jelly but put my envy aside to help a girl out. I adore Sam obviously... I mean who doesn't?

I have been going 250 mph lately but I have to say, once I came across this space, my unbelievable pace came to a screeching halt. Major pattern, texture, color, layers and overall amazing design aesthetic. Naturally, I gravitate towards patterned, collected and eclectic spaces so this look was an automatic "yes" for me. What is not to love?

So true to form, I was desperate to recreate this look. I know that stacking and layering patterns is intimidating, but really it is a must. While I did reversals on some of these pattern schemes, it is easy to get the same look.

See. That wasn't so bad. If you feel like getting pattern happy and crazy with me, make sure you come and play with me over at Sadie + Stella. Loves!

XOXO,

Express Your Style: A Bachelorette Escape

Hi friends!  Thank you all for your positive feedback on the costume idea yesterday.  For those of you who thought the blonde hair will trip me up- rest assured I found some brown hairspray at the costume shop that apparently sprays your hair a brunette shade and washes out in the shower.  Let's hope it washes out, because that's my strategy. ;)

One of my all-time favorite home decor websites is Layla Grayce.  They carry a wide array of furnishings and decor items from several fabulous vendors.  So when I heard they teamed up with Jonathan Adler (another personal favorite) for a contest, I had to partake!
The "Express Your Style" competition challenges you to design your dream living room using items from both Layla Grayce and Jonathan Adler.  I stretched myself and went for a bold bachelorette pad with cheeky pillows, a stocked bar cart, and a lot of turquoise.  What do you think?

Shop the Look:

It's my perfect bachelorette escape.  Booze+ pink Moroccan puff+ no wire hangars & a dash of Jackie O?  Yes please!

I'd love for you to vote for my design here, & you can also enter the contest yourself!
Happy designing!

Bold Wall Colors in the Bedroom... Would You Do It?

I am always attracted to bedrooms with bold wall colors. But I'm not so sure I'm brave enough to do it myself.  I tend to like my bedroom to feel like a spa or a retreat.

I'm curious to know.... is your bedroom a bold wall color or wallpaper pattern?  Would you be brave enough to paint it a strong hue?

Color Block Decor

Color blocking quite literally (or not so much literally) exploded this past fall.  The idea here is to where a bold color mix with no concern of necessarily matching or pulling the colors together with any rhyme or reason.  For example: Purple skinny jeans, a sea foam green tee, and patent pink heels.  Here are some of my favorite, most fashionable examples of a good color block.

Although color blocking fashion is somewhat "old news", my mind began to visualize a color-blocked interior decor scheme.  Would it look good?  Would it be a fast and fading trend, as color block fashion seems to be?  What would happen if I color blocked my house?  Would I get excommunicated and sent off to the loony bin? I had to investigate this one.

Color blocked interiors- can it work long-term or will it be over before the season finale of Parks & Rec?  I think I could get away with it with no one questioning my sanity, don't you?  Unless, I took it to this extreme...

... at which case I am sure I'd have the authorities called on me.   Decorate on, my loves!
