Bedside Glamour

One of my favorite pieces in a home are the bedside tables.  Call me nosy, but I love seeing what people display on them- whether it be family photos, the book they are reading, a candle, or a mix of artwork and decorative accessories.  My bedside table consists of a stack of books I'm working my way through, a painting by Lola Donoghue, a Nest candle, a few framed photos, and my reading lamp.  And if I'm being honest, often my space heater- I get so cold at night!  Today I wanted to gather a collection of my favorite bedside table situations so we can admire them together:

Houston designer Ashley Goforth has a classic, clean palette that is evident in this serene bedroom.  I love that a small framed piece of art and fresh flowers flank the bed.

Nothing gets me like a collection of framed photos. The fun, ceramic lamp adds a touch of whimsy to the space.

Swivel sconces are great for a bedside.  They can be swung around to provide reading light and then moved out of the way while sleeping.  They also free up space on your nightstand!

Ideally, a bedside table should consist of your favorite things.  A blue and white ceramic lamp, warm coffee, and fresh flowers make this boudoir a dream:

And who doesn't love a comfy chaise lounge for extra reading space?

What do you keep within reach of your bedside?

Bedside Table Study

I often get asked by friends and clients about bedside tables- do they need to match?  Can I get away with just one on one side?  What if my space is limited?  So today I thought I'd share my thoughts and advice on bedside design.  I personally love to see a bed framed with matching side tables/dressers.  The symmetry of it is pleasing to the eye.  Add wall-mounted sconces for a luxe alternative to table lamps:

Adding a bench at the end of the bed is another pretty framing device.  Ideally, one with a width of about 6" less than your bed width is best.

Symmetry is beautiful, but mis-matched bedside tables can add visual interest and uniqueness to a room:

Not in to bedside tables, or don't have the space for them?  Bedside chairs can do the trick!

If space is an issue, one bedside table is fine.  But to balance out the look, I'd put a tall fiddle leaf plant or even a pretty floor lamp on the other side of the bed. The ideal height of a bedside table is even with your mattress top, but going about 6" above is okay, too.  In fact, I personally prefer the height difference a bit.

What are your thoughts- what bedside look do you prefer?

Boudoir of the Day

Today's boudoir of the day is a lovely respite of gentle colors and soft finishes.  What takes this room from ordinary to memorable for me are the 2 silver gilded Louis Phillipe mirrors above the bed.  It adds an interesting focal point above the headboard- I've never seen a grouping of mirrors like this work so well.

What do you think?

Glam It Up!

I've always fantasized about one day having an ultra glam closet/vanity space and bathroom.  I'm talking mirrored cabinetry, upholstered built in seats, and chandeliers that would make Lisa Vanderpump blush:

My dream vanity would have turquoise accents, a hint of fur, and a large freestanding tub.  Tocca candles would line the counters.  And I'd always have a glass of wine in hand!

How great is that Oscar Wilde quote?  I found that pretty over at Furbish Studio.  I'd love to use it as a jewelry tray.

How's your week going??

French Romance in a Bedroom

The other day I got a very kind email from a reader telling me she had purchased a bed just like mine and was wondering if I could put together a board with some room inspiration regarding surrounding decor.  OF COURSE, I said, because nothing makes me happier than a little room board.  I switched it up a bit by using a different headboard design, but in the same colors.  I also went with a more romantic, traditional vibe, incorporating a lot of French-inspired pieces.  Ever since I spotted the Aidan Gray Bristol sconces, I have been lusting hard.  I think we were made for each other:

How delicious would they look next to an upholstered headboard?  Parisian romanticism at it's best, no?

I can see this design working well for a guest room or a bachelorette.  Or really for any situation (in my book).  My future husband will have to learn to live with a dash of pink.  No ifs, and or buts about it.
I hope you like!! Oh, and Happy Halloween!

Bedroom Revamp

Living in my bedroom as I originally decorated it for a year now, I think it's time to switch it up a bit.  That's the plight of a designer, I guess: always wanting to change things up and try something new!  Here's how it looks now- very girly, classic, and glam:

Although I love the feel of it now, I am really craving a richer space-  more vampy, with bold color and a touch of mid century modern.  I'd like to add more black and a bit of gold.
Here's a few bedrooms that I am completely head over heels for...

And here's an inspiration board I created for my vision...

I realllly would love to buy everything on this board.  Sigh, if only...

Boudoir of the Day

This bedroom was featured in the latest issue of Lonny mag.  At the risk of appearing redundant (isn't everybody featuring images from Lonny's latest issue, everywhere it seems?) I just had to feature this bedroom.  I have a weak spot for tufted headboards, and the crisp white against the monogrammed white linens is so classically beautiful.  I also adore the sconce- a unique alternative to the typical reading lamp in a bedroom.  The turquoise bedside table adds the perfect pop of color to create a serene bedroom retreat.

Boudoir of the Day

Today's boudoir comes from Lily Catherine, a fellow blogger and decor lover.  When she sent me pictures of her feminine bedroom, I had to feature it!  The style is very girly and whimsical, perfect for a gal living on her own or with a roommate- when we can still decorate with lots of florals and pinks.  I love the painted furniture and the pretty vanity.  She recently painted her walls a taupe color, which adds a bit of sophistication to her boudoir.  Great job, Lily!  Thank you for sharing with us.

Boudoir of the Day

Today's boudoir of the day comes from Lauren Flax of the Splendid Objects blog.  This is her "real-life" Toronto loft, which she decorated herself.  I love the femininity and coziness of her boudoir.  The floral dress hung near her desk reminds me of The Coveteur. I like that The pendant light gives off an industrial chic vibe that manages to play nicely with the glam touches. Great job, Lauren!

Boudoir of the Day

This room has me seriously swooming.  I love the kilam rug that brings out the reds in the quilt and curtains.  The French headboard with gold accents is right up my alley.  Wouldn't you love to come home to this sanctuary every evening?

Boudoir of the Day

Today's boudoir of the day is a maximalist's dream room.  The deep blue walls, blue headboard and blue diamond rug might be a bit much for most decoristas, but this bedroom is noteworthy nonetheless.  I love the touches of gold and the lamp is my favorite piece of furniture here.   What do you think?
